The peak body representing franchised new car dealers has welcomed the public release of the Road Vehicle Standards Bill today.
The Government has released an exposure draft of the Road Vehicle Standards package of legislation, including five draft bills and the associated rules.
“After a thorough consultation process, we believe the Government has developed a balanced, well-considered package of reforms which protects consumers, reduces red tape and allows for an objective scheme to import specialist and enthusiast vehicles,” said AADA Chief Executive Officer, David Blackhall.
The AADA supports the move to give the responsible Minister powers to mandate the recall of private and commercial vehicles.
“New car franchised dealers conduct all vehicle safety recalls in Australia and we are supportive of the additional clarity this legislation provides in this area,” said Mr Blackhall.
The AADA will carefully consider the bills and the associated rules and will work with the Government to assist them in finalising this legislative change. “I congratulate the Minister for his consultative approach throughout this process and look forward to providing the input from new car dealers into this important reform,” said Mr Blackhall.
